Western Facade and Plaza

The design for The Market focused on three drivers: providing an open market layout, connecting plazas that lie adjacent to the East and West, and minimizing the footprint of the culinary institute on the site. The combination of long-span glulam arches and structural diagrid roof structure allows an uninterrupted market space with a doubly curved roof form. The use of glulam arches pays homage to the early open air market halls of East Tennessee, comprised of only wooden posts and a roof.
